| | "... Viognier is a variety which was not often seen in Australian wine-drinking circles until a couple of years ago. Now it is everywhere, and Yalumba leads the charge with its Eden Valley Viognier and the more grandiose, and much more expensive, The Virgilius. Both wines are very attractive examples of this variety – showing rich opulent aromas of ripe apricots and honeysuckle. The Virgilius has seen some oak and is higher in alcohol, richer and more glycerous on the palate. The Eden Valley wine is a little lighter in style, but both show the unusually high alcohol and low acidity combined with a rich glycerous forward palate typical of this variety: unfamiliar at first sip, but rather moreish as one continues. Viognier is the white wine to drink now – and let us hope that like all great fashions, this becomes a lasting style."
