Wines Brand

A collection of wine celebrating Yalumba’s direct lineage to Australia’s first vine plantings, some of which could be found in Samuel Smith’s garden 165 years ago. These wines demonstrate the diversity and quality of the Barossa.

 Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014

Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014

"They are not good because they are old; they are old because they are good."

Often described as one of Australia’s unsung heroes, Grenache is naturally lighter in colour than Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon but continually provides us with wonderful big fruit flavours. Yalumba is extremely fortunate to have access to some of the oldest Grenache vineyards in the Barossa –with fruit for this wine sourced from vines planted between 1898 and 1973.

 Patchwork Shiraz 2013

Patchwork Shiraz 2013

As distinct as the region that created it, Patchwork is the point where all of the Barossa’s unique characteristics converge. History, craft, geography and climate come together to produce a Shiraz that perfectly articulates what this remarkable region truly represents.

 Roussanne 2013

Roussanne 2013

Since starting work with Viognier in the 1980's the Yalumba winemaking team have been keen to work with other perfumed and exotic varieties originating from the Northern Rhône. Our first attempt to produce Roussanne was in the 1980's, however, the imported vine material was found to contain a virus and had to be destroyed. It was not until the late 2000's that we had vines ready to go into the ground.

 The Guardian Shiraz Viognier 2010

The Guardian Shiraz Viognier 2010

Rich, generous shiraz from Eden Valley is co-fermented with viognier producing a deliciously spicy, silky and savoury red wine. The co-fermentation of viognier, a white grape, and shiraz, a black grape, adds an extra dimension to this iconic Australian red.

 The Strapper 2012

The Strapper 2012

The three varieties are picked separately for this wine and fermented in small batches - some in oak vats and some in stainless steel. The subsequent wines are aged in a mixture of large oak vats, small oak vats, puncheons and smaller oak barrels, to allow the wines to develop without the influence of a lot of oak flavour, but to increase in textures and complexity. Parcels of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro are chosen from Barossa vineyards that show vibrancy and depth of fruit.

 Viognier 2013

Viognier 2013

The Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier is rich and opulent with intense varietal flavour - classic apricot and white peach flavours combined with citrus freshness and a hint of spice. Partial barrel fermentation in French oak has contributed the complexity essential in creating a truly intriguing wine.
