Shiraz

Shiraz in Australia is nuanced: some can be rich, ripe & jammy with profuse tannin and oak in equal measure; yet others are fine & elegant with lifted floral fragrance.

  • Variety Cork Olive Branch

Brought from cuttings from its spiritual home in the Rhône Valley by the father of Australian viticulture, James Busby, Shiraz has been part of Australia’s winemaking landscape since its inception in the early 1800s. It was from these Busby cuttings that Samuel Smith planted Yalumba’s first Shiraz vines. Shiraz in Australia is nuanced: some can be rich, ripe & jammy with profuse tannin and oak in equal measure; yet others are fine & elegant with lifted floral fragrance. Yalumba seeks to explore these nuances of flavour with a vast collection of Shiraz in its collection: The Octavius, exquisitely crafted from hand selected Barossa old vines; the single site Steeple Vineyard as a testament to the French concept of ‘terroir’; the contradiction and purity of The Paradox; Patchwork to celebrate the myriad of soil compositions within the Barossa and Galway, to commemorate the history and provenance of Yalumba.
