Tasting Note Showing a lovely depth of red with purple hues. This wine is beautifully aromatic and bright with cherry and pepper spice, combined with cedar and hints of fresh woody notes from 10% whole bunch fermentation. Medium weighted with rosemary, lavender and pepper flavours, the delicious and inviting palate flows with fine, velvety tannins. Very elegant and refined.
Terroir Grapes for the 175th Anniversary Release were selected from four vineyards across the Barossa. The Barossa Valley Grenache comes from our Tri-Centenary Vineyard planted in 1889. The oldest parcel of Shiraz was gently handpicked from Eden Valley vines planted in 1854, combined with Barossa Valley Shiraz planted in 1901 and Eden Valley Shiraz planted in 1920. The Eden Valley Shiraz provides elegant aromatics and refined palate structure that come from a cooler climate, while Barossa Valley Shiraz provides richness, density and concentration.
Treatment The Grenache remained on skins for 235 days after fermentation, imparting plush, silky texture. Centenarian vines 60%. Ancestor vines 40%. 10% whole bunch fermentation in the final blend. Matured for 16 months in 22% new Hungarian oak hogsheads, balance in 4-year-old Hungarian oak hogsheads.
