Our Flagship white wine, The Virgilius Viognier, is often regarded as Australia's benchmark Viognier. This elegant wine will take you on an aromatic journey as it evolves in the glass.
Tasting Note Lifted ginger spice is layered on the palate with mineral, sourdough-like texture, apricots and almond savouriness. The hallmark Viognier texture of the palate is clearly evident in this wine. It is complex while at the same time shows purity and restraint that will unwind slowly in the glass and take the imbiber on a sensory journey.
Terroir In 1980, with help from the Yalumba nursery, the first commercial Viognier vines in Australia were planted on our neighbour's Eden Valley vineyard. Today, old vine Viognier grapes are carefully selected from this special site to craft The Virgilus.
Treatment Handpicked Viognier grapes were whole-bunch pressed to mature French oak barrels, where they were fermented by ‘wild’ yeasts occurring naturally in the vineyard. These wild yeasts play a subtle yet important role in the development of the wine, creating layers of richness, complexity and fine textures.

The Virgilius is named after the Roman poet Publius Vergilius Maro, 70 – 90 BC. Considered one of the greatest Roman poets, Virgil was a mentor to the first Emperor of Rome, Augustus.
