Tim Price’s painting practice moves between figuration, landscape, abstraction and painting from life, exploring the shifting relationship between perception, memory and imagination. His works are characterised by whimsical mark making and an improvised lyricism, bringing together colour, pattern, tone and gesture to create ambiguous interior and exterior worlds.
Drawing on contemporary experience, found imagery and an interest in 20th-century art history, Tim reworks familiar objects, figures and landscapes through an intuitive and materially responsive approach to painting. What he ‘sees, thinks and paints’ are in constant interaction, allowing recognisable forms to emerge, dissolve and transform within the composition.
Tim holds a BFA (ANU, 2007) and PhD (ANU, 2018), and has exhibited in Canberra, Tasmania, Melbourne and Sydney since 2007.
