Thom Roberts is a multidisciplinary artist whose vibrant practice spans painting, drawing, installation, animation and performance. Seeing the world through a kaleidoscope lens, Thom reimagines people, trains and architecture as colourful multiples, informed by his playful process of “crown reading” and distinctive use of the photocopier. His instantly recognisable portraits often feature surreal additions—extra eyes, moustaches or “piano teeth”—that invite audiences to see the familiar anew. A four-time Archibald finalist, Thom has portrayed artist Ken Done and Shelley Simpson of Mud Australia, among others. In 2025, he opened a landmark solo exhibition, The Immersive World of Thom Roberts, at the National Portrait Gallery.
