Barossa

The Octavius Barossa Old Vine Shiraz

Shiraz 2009
  • Vintage quality: 2009 was an excellent year for Shiraz in the Barossa region. Good rainfall was recorded during the growing season which replenished soil moisture. Spring and early summer experienced dry conditions. Good rainfall during December enabled the vineyards to endure a very warm late January and early February. The old Shiraz vines thrived in these conditions and were able to fully ripen throughout early February to late March, producing wonderfully aromatic wines.
  • Cellar guide: Decant and enjoy now or cellar to 2039.
  • Last tasted: Andrew Caillard
  • Notes: A classical Barossa Shiraz with generous blackberry, dark chocolate, liquorice aromas and hints of herb garden, polished leather and spice. Very well concentrated wine with generous blackberry, dark plum, dark chocolate, panforte flavours, plentiful looseknit chalky firm tannins, lovely inky density and some spicy, earthy notes. Chocolaty firm finish. Wonderful complexity volume and richness.
