Paradox Shiraz

Shiraz 2022

$50
750mL Bottle
As you might expect from its name, the Paradox Shiraz is not what you would expect from a wine from the warmest parts of the northern Barossa Valley. It's a softer, more gentle, velvet-like and savoury style of wine.

As you might expect from its name, the Paradox Shiraz is not what you would expect from a wine from the warmest parts of the northern Barossa Valley. It's a softer, more gentle, velvet-like and savoury style of wine.
Tasting Note Deep red in colour, the wine opens with cassis and blackcurrant, dark plum and dark chocolate. Following through with presence of dried sage herb, olive tapenade, with vanilla cream. A very soft, plush and powerful palate, blueberry notes, dark cherry fruits, espresso, baking spices, and blackforest cake. Look out for the the attractive rustic/garagiste tannins.
Terroir The northern area of the Barossa Valley has some of the oldest landscapes in the Barossa, with bed rocks forming the famous soils in which the grape vines grow. It is also one of the early grape growing areas of the Barossa, with many generational growers who are both traditional and attuned to the needs of making their vineyards sustainable with modern viticultural thinking.
Treatment The Shiraz grapes are picked earlier than most in the region, for spicier flavours, softer mouthfeel and slightly lower alcohol percentage. The Paradox is matured for 17 months in new and older French oak.

Accolades

A lovely wine on the palate
Rich and dark fruited, complex and textured. Dark berries and chocolate, toasty earth and wood smoke, licorice and fie spice. A lovely wine on the palate with a juicy core of ripe berry-fruit flavours, spice and chocolate framed by an abundance of tannins and acidity, a chalky mouthfeel and lengthy fruit-led finish. Well made and rather delicious. Best from 2025 through 2032+.

Excellent shiraz
Very deep, dense red-purple colour; powerful dark-plum and subtle spice aromas, with stony/broken rock nuances. The palate is rich and fruit-sweet at the core, with concentration and depth, surrounded by supple tannins that add to the fleshy texture. Traces of licorice and bitumen. Excellent shiraz.
Huon Hooke

Lovely complexity and flow
Deep crimson. Dark plum, blackberry, sugared walnut aromas. Sweet fruited, blackberry pastile, walnut/ grilled nut favours and fine chalky/bittersweet textures. Lovely complexity and flow. Drink now–2032
