Encompassing everything our family stands for and the perfect representation of our history and ethos, The Signature is a sentimental favourite. A classic Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, the 51st release is as meaningful now as it was in 1966 when we released the inaugural 1962 vintage.
Tasting Note A beautiful, deep, dense red in colour. Well defined aromatics reflect the cool season. Perfumed red and purple berries, red licorice, blackcurrant and black cherries with cedar, mint and subtle herbaceous notes. Inviting and appealing freshness with hints of bay leaf and toasted spice layers along the palate. Full bodied, rich and concentrated with fine, flowing tannins and lovely texture in perfect harmony.
Terroir The Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from two vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The diversity of our vineyard selection provides the rich, lifted Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and palate structure for which The Signature is renowned. The Shiraz comes from vineyards of varying age, with the oldest planted in 1925. These blocks are of sandy loam, featuring yellow sand and ochre clay over red clay. The combination of these Barossa Valley blocks provides a Shiraz with sweetness, fullness, depth and layers of complexity.
Treatment Matured for 18 months in 21% new Hungarian hogsheads, French barriques and hogsheads, balance in older French and Hungarian barriques and hogsheads.

A serious wine that is built to last for years
Savory aromas of blackcurrants, cedar, tobacco leaves, ferrous earth and bitter chocolate. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins, a long, persisting finish and lingering notes of blackberries, blood plums and walnuts. A serious wine that is built to last for years in the bottle. Drink or hold.

Elegant and graceful across the palate
Yalumba's famous Signature cabernet sauvignon and shiraz blend has a strong pedigree when it comes to cellaring and the 2022 release will certainly carry on long into the future. The fruit density and purity here is impressive. Blackberry, Doris plum and black cherry tones, their flow elegant and graceful across the palate with hints of spice, cedar, tobacco, pencil shavings, roasting meats, dried herbs and olive tapenade. Fine-grained tannins are in abundance and there is an extended finish that rolls on and on. It's a super release.

This is another excellent release
And here I was thinking The Signature 2021 was one of the best releases to date, and then this 2022 comes around. Woah, this is something special. The talent of winemaker Kevin Glastonbury continues to overdeliver with this Cabernet Shiraz blend that never ceases to impress. The 2022 signatory is Paul Midolo. Having worked his way through the business to finish as the Executive Director of Sales, Midolo's career seemed to continually change over a meal beside a Lazy Susan. It seems each time he was seated beside one, his role would take a turn for the better and so would his destination - be it Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney along the way. A mad Richmond supporter, he has dedicated nearly 30 years to the business and he is a more than worthy recipient of this great honour - The Signature 2022. The Signature carries a distinct cherry ripe character, and here we are again. That dark chocolate and cherry thing is absolutely delightful. A 51/49 blend of entirely Barossa fruit, blueberries and mulberries muse with raspberry rope, char and pan juices. Dried herbs, flashes of mint, some Bay leaf and an array of fine brown spices frame the palate with a plum density dripping from the mid-palate. Pillows of lacy tannins slowly melt away - brilliant! Slippery and incredibly delicious, this is another excellent release for a wine in the Yalumba range which I feel is very modestly priced. Go here.

Lovely power and balance
Opaque, dark and a youthful plummy red in the glass. Lifted aromas of blackberry, mulberry, dark cherry, licorice, sweet nutty oak, bramble, dried herbs and spice. Full-bodied, generously flavoured, dark fruited, cedar, mocha and with plenty of shapely tannins and lively acidity. There's lovely power and balance here, very enjoyable drinking now, but will cellar for many years. - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review, 1 July 2025

The Best Yalumba Signature Release Ever
The 2022 The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is so pretty—floral, red fruited and fine. This is a beautiful iteration of this wine. Ironically, there's a coastal freshness about it—kelp, brine, crushed shells—given it is nowhere near the coast. It's capacious and mineral and so fresh. The tannins are fine and neat, and the wine has incredible focus and line through the long finish. It's very impressive, potentially one of my favorite releases of this wine to date. It has wholly Barossa fruit this vintage. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.

The low-cropping 2022 vintage provided intense flavours
The remarkable consistency of The Signature over decades stands as a testament to Yalumba’s ability to keep finding superb Cabernet in the Barossa each year, even when this variety has a notoriously fickle temperament in dry vintages. The low-cropping 2022 vintage provided intense flavours, giving this wine rich character and a stern demeanour. Uncharacteristically, it shows more assertive Shiraz personality in its youth, offering dark power and deep, grinding bass notes through the mid-palate. The comforting warmth of savoury-edged Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon remains a significant contributor however. Its sturdy tannin profile suggests it will change with age in the cellar, when its Cabernet influence is likely to make a rich savoury mid-palate come into bloom.

Class 27 - Dry Red Blends - Cabernet Sauvignon Dominant - 2022 Vintage & Older
Perth Royal Wine Awards 2025

I love Kevin Glastonbury's sensitivity to detail, brightness and finesse, and the cool seasons of the Barossa exemplify his talents. He has meshed almost equal components of Barossa Cabernet and Shiraz seamlessly here, uniting depth of black fruits with heights of violet, fragrance, crunchy acidity with strong, fine-grained tannins, and immaculate polish with enduring longevity. Benchmark Signature!

Brilliant
Superbly classic and addictive on the nose. Dark berries dusted in dark chocolate, raspberry coulee, dried woody herbs, hints of tobacco and bay leaf, subtle notes of gum leaf also. Medium-full bodied, gorgeously silky with a dusting of fine Cabernet tannins, fleshy mid-palate oozing with dark berry sweetness, bay and sage kicking on through the finish. Brilliant. Yet again, another excellent rendition of The Signature!

Opulent and distinctive
Opulent and distinctive, with notes of violet, black olive, sandalwood and fresh rose petal. Whiffs of green cardamom complement the rich flavors of blackberry and huckleberry, showing additional accents of star anise, bittersweet chocolate and black licorice. The tannins are concentrated but fully integrated, giving length and plushness. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Drink now through 2039. 6,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.
MaryAnn Worobiec

Impeccable length and presence
Calm, serious and complex. Blackcurrant, just brewed black tea, deep plum, touches of pouch tobacco, cedar and toasty oak, coriander seed, soft leather, choc/mint, vanilla paste and a little bay leaf. Seamless and deep. A complex interplay with red and black fruit, intense and concentrated. The tannins are exquisite, fine and tight. With impeccable length and presence, this is yet another absolute bargain from Yalumba.
