The Octavius Museum Release 2016

2016

Shiraz

Spicy and mineral to the nose and palate, with glimpses of violets. Its iodine and liquoriceedged black cherry and blueberry flavour is succulent, but still in the grip of the sinewy, charry oak, making for an imposing, slightly austere finish. A powerhouse.

Tasting Note Deep, brooding red in colour. The nose intense and layered, opening with dark berry fruits and black cherry, woven through with notes of chocolate truffles, tobacco and ironstone. The palate evolved yet still retains vibrancy and is tightly coiled, driven by red berry fruit and framed by firm, ironstone-like tannins. Persistent, cool and remarkably long, the finish speaks to both power and restraint, with savoury elements lingering well beyond the last sip.
Terroir The 2016 The Octavius is sourced from 67% Barossa Valley Shiraz and 33% Eden Valley Shiraz with an average vine age of 1936. The Barossa Valley Shiraz provides richness, density and concentration. The Eden Valley Shiraz provides the exotic aromatics and seamless palate structure.
Treatment Matured for 22 Months in 28% new French oak Barriques and Hogsheads, balance in 1 year and older American Octaves, French Barriques and Hogsheads.

The Museum Collection

Twenty years ago our winemaking team began putting away our flagship wines with the intention for the bottles to be enjoyed at a later date. It was envisioned that beautifully aged wines, released every year, would promote the reputation of surviving heirloom vineyards and consistently show the skilled craftsmanship behind our Yalumba collection.

These wines are aged up to 20 years and capture the essence of our commitment to wines of pedigree and exceptional quality. We have addressed the challenge associated with preserving wines under optimal storage conditions, thereby ensuring their maturity and quality.
